Yes, that’s right… certain flavours do impact the longevity of your coils. If you’re a regular vaper you would have experienced having a burnt coil. We will be breaking down how, why and what you can do to keep your coils in the best condition.

Why do flavoured e-liquids burn your coil?

Not many people know but if your choosing e-liquid with high level sweeteners such as dessert flavoured e-liquids is the reason why it's burning.When the sugars in the e-liquid is heated, it ‘caramelises’ and leaves a sticky residue ( just like if you heat sugar in the pan). The flavours darken and burn the cotton faster once the coil is overheated. It’s inevitable that dessert flavoured e-liquids are delicious but they come with a price.

Dark coloured e-liquid is another factor to your coil burning as they also contain sweeteners that again overheats the coil.

Another factor to why coils burn quicker could be the fact that you're using the wrong VG/PG e-liquid ratio… not all coils are compatible with all e-liquids. Vape Pod kits are compatible with 50/50 VG/PG e-liquids which are freebase 10mls, Nic salt 10mls and you can find some 50ml and 100mls with 50/50 VG/PG ratio such as Fifty Fifty 50ml and Pod 100 Series.

Eventually all e-liquids will burn the coil however not priming your coil will increase the chances. We have a published blog talking about the importance of priming the coil, you can read more about that here.

How to prevent burning your vape coil: 

• Priming your coil - We can’t emphasise enough how much this helps your coil last longer. The minimum requirement is 5 minutes but it is best to wait at least 10-15 minutes to ensure the cotton absorbs enough e-liquid before being heated otherwise you will get a dry hit.  You can read more about priming your coil here.
• Maintaining your coil - It’s not as hard as some say it is or complicated. If you want something to last, you need to put the work in.
• Ensure your using the right VG/PG Ratio - If you need help finding out what coil and e-liquid combination you can use please feel free to contact us via phone, email, live chat (found on the right bottom corner of our website) or visit one of our retail store locations.
• Topping up your pod/tank - Regularly check the level of e-liquid in your pod/tank. Try not to let the e-liquid run out completely or halfway below the cotton ringlets. 
• Check the recommended wattages - When you buy a vape device they will recommend a range wattage for the desired ohm. For example the Oxva Xlim SQ Pro 2 Pod Kit is compatible with the Oxva Xlim Replacement Pods and its recommended if you have 0.4ohm to use 26-30w, 0.6ohm with 20-25w, 0.8ohm with 12-18w and 1.2ohm with 10-12w.
• Regularly change the coil - Majority of the newer coils last approximately 2 weeks however this will all depend on how frequently you vape and what e-liquid you vape.
• Clean your tank regularly - This would come under maintaining your tank.
• Try to avoid chain vaping - Vaping one after another doesn't give the coil enough time to soak up the e-liquid and will lead to burning the coil.    
• Avoid mixing flavours - If you swap flavours while you’re using the same pod/tank it will have an effect on the longevity and flavour… don’t be surprised if it tastes weird or burnt. We understand you may be eager to try a new flavour but it's best to change the pod or replace the coil.
