If you weren't aware the UK government is in the process of implementing a new tax for vaping.
When will the vaping tax start?
The Government has announced that the vaping tax will be implemented in the United Kingdom on the 1st of October 2026. This is well over a year's time, so there’s nothing to worry about right now but there are things within the law that you will need to know as we all know time flies and before we know it, it will be the 1st of October 2026.
Why is there a Vaping tax?
You’re properly thinking why the government will be implementing a tax on vaping and the answer is to tackle young vapers by decreasing the incentive to buy a vape. Studies show that the vaping rates are highest amongst 16-24-year-olds. This is worrying as the legal age to smoke/vape is 18.
As well as that point the government will use the tax money to raise revenue to fund public services such as the NHS. In relation to this, there will be a one-off increase in tobacco products to ensure those who vape won't go back to smoking cigarettes. The government is aiming to use the money curated from the tobacco increase to raise £525 Million to fund the NHS and smoking initiatives to make a smoke-free life. They will do this by increasing the price by £2.20 per 100 cigarettes, however this may change.
Vaping Tax on E-Liquids:
What does the vaping tax mean for vapers?
Setting the law in place is easier said than done. There is a lot of work to be done behind the scenes to get this new tax to be added. Manufacturers such as Elux, IVG, SKE, Voopoo and even ourselves will be affected as we will need to re-price all our e-liquid products to include the excise tax.
Excise tax is essentially any duty to be imposed on the value of manufactured goods such as alcohol, tobacco and fuel.
Although this may be new to us, countries such as America, Albania, Greece, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Georgia and many more already have the same or similar laws on nicotine products already in place. If you are planning to travel to a different country for work or holiday please ensure that you check their vaping laws as some countries may not permit vaping AT ALL! and you don’t want to be left with a hefty fine.
Not to forget….
The government has put an official ban on single-use disposables, which is also related to encouraging younger vapers to quit vaping as well as reduce littering because single-use disposables are a big factor contributing to littering. I’m sure you’ve seen at least 10 single-use vapes on the streets in the past few days/ weeks. This law is set to take place as of June 1st 2025. Shop our single-use disposables here before they're gone. Read more about disposables being banned in the UK here in our latest blog here.
